NCCC Choirs

NCCC offers choral programs year round for boys and girls in Kindergarten - 9th grades.

Concert, Cantabile and Premier Choirs are in session for the entire school year, August – May. Concert Choir and Cantabile require a placement audition. Premier Choir is for all who love to sing. A simple interview is suggested so that Mrs. Britts can get to know the singer before their first rehearsal.

The six week Mini Glee sessions are the perfect way to introduce young singers, Kindergarten through third grade to a singing experience.

Other short-term programs are offered throughout the year such as Vocal workshops and summer camps.

Premier Choir (grades 2 – 5)

The primary goal for our youngest NCCC singers is that they enjoy their experience of learning to sing. Through singing, singing games, and activities, our Premier Choir members will:

  • Sing a varied repertoire of folk songs from around the world as well as sacred music, classical music, contemporary, and pop songs.
  • Experience singing in unison
  • Learn good vocal habits with correct breathing, tone placement, and good singing posture.
  • Learn excellent rehearsal techniques of listening, sitting attentively, and focusing on the activity being taught.
  • Learn basic music theory skills as they prepare for the next level in the NCCC program. This will include reading rhythm patterns, writing rhythm patterns, reading melodic lines, and learning about the expressive elements of music.
  • Perform for each other in rehearsal and for audiences in NCCC concerts and at senior centers.
  • Rehearsals are held every Monday, 4:30pm – 6:00pm in Roseville.
  • Singers are expected to enroll for the year.

Concert Choir (grades 4 – 9)

Concert Choir is the intermediate / advanced choir of NCCC. Concert Choir members are committed to artistic excellence and a willingness to learn. Each singer will:

  • Learn excellent rehearsal techniques, including being responsible for their own music folder and music theory book, caring for their music, listening attentively, sitting with the correct posture all with a positive attitude.
  • Perform repertoire from a variety of styles such as art songs, contemporary music, folksongs, sacred music as well as songs performed in other languages.
  • Receive excellent vocal training through exercises, singing of rounds and art songs. Each singer will focus on developing a free tone with proper phonation, correct breath control and pure resonance through the use of uniform vowels and proper projection.
  • Learn to be independent singers as they master the skills of singing in parts.
  • Learn music reading skills primarily through the Kodaly system. Music theory will be taught through the music they are learning to perform.
  • Gain the skills of being an excellent performer. Those skills include, walking on and off stage in a professional manner, having all music memorized, looking like an excellent performer with the proper choir attire, and keeping eyes on the director while performing!
  • Enrich their lives as they learn, perform and begin to understand the art of performing excellent choral music.
  • This choir rehearses one day a week, Tuesdays, from 4:30 – 6pm. Singers are expected to register for the entire year.

Cantabile (Grades 4 – 9)

Cantabile is the advanced touring choir of the NCCC. Singers in this group have either made their way through the training levels of Premier and Concert Choir or have auditioned into this group with previous music experience.

  • Members of Cantabile are required to be a part of Concert Choir. Thus, the rehearsal commitment is Tuesdays and Thursdays, 4:30 – 6pm.
  • Cantabile will receive all of the benefits outlined above for Concert Choir.

Additionally, Cantabile members will:

  • Learn music reading skills primarily through the Kodaly system. Each singer will have a music theory book, “A Young Singer’s Journey” working their way through 6 levels of music theory. Theory classes will be during Thursday rehearsals.
  • Perform around the community and tour nationally as representatives of the NCCC.
  • Be available for community events such as Lighting of the Christmas Tree at the Fountains, in Roseville, or at business gatherings as invited.
This choir rehearses two days a week, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 4:30 – 6pm
